Activated carbon is the material used in military gas masks to adsorb toxic airborne chemicals. It is a completely safe substance. AllerAir Industries' specialty lies in providing the most effective carbon filtration air purifiers available. For specific chemical problems, we have over 40 different blends of carbon available.

For particle filtration, the majority of our units use a HEPA filter. HEPA filters (high efficiency particle arresting filters) were initially developed for the Department of Energy and are the standard filter used in medical clean rooms for particulate filtration. They are rated at 99.97% efficient at removing particles of 0.3 microns in size.

Together, a HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter will remove the vast majority of airborne contaminants. They are the safest and most effective technologies used in air filtration today. Another technology offered as an option in many of our units is UV (ultraviolet) light. This provides an additional layer of protection against microbial contaminants such as mold, bacteria, and viruses. Microbes that pass through the air purifier are sterilized and rendered harmless by the UV light.

The Power Of Activated Carbon

What makes AllerAir Industries an activated carbon specialist?

Our experts have been working with activated carbon in the air purification industry for over 15 years. Allerair Industries provides more than 40 different blends and types of carbon for specific chemical environments.
What is "Activated" Carbon?
Carbon that is 'activated' undergoes a process which opens up millions of tiny pores and fissures to enhance the material's adsorbent properties. The process creates a very large internal surface area, which is key to the power of activated carbon - the more surface area - the more the carbon can adsorb. Only one pound of activated carbon typically has a surface area of 125 acres.

How Does Activated Carbon Work?
When gases, chemicals and odors pass slowly through a thick filter packed with activated carbon these substances get permanently trapped in the million of pores opened by the activation process. Due to the large internal surface area of activated carbons it can actually adsorb up to 60% of its weight. Good carbon filters, depending on the environment in which they are used, can last up to 5 years before all of the pores are full.

Trusted by the Military
Activated carbon is the substance that keeps military personnel safe from poisonous gases.

Trusted by Emergency Room Doctors
Due to its high adsorbent properties,
pharmaceutical activated carbon is used in treating cases of human poisoning.
